SOAS Students start fee strike to defend education

Running Time: 9mins 18 secs

Students at SOAS, many of them international students, have taken the very brave step of withholding their course fees in protest at how SOAS have failed both students and workers during the pandemic.

Students were promised blending learning (both physical and online), which under pandemic conditions was always going to be difficult – but with no planning whatsoever, proved to be impossible. Now students are paying thousands to sit at home on zoom calls, and international students are stranded and isolated in a country they were told had the pandemic under control.

The students are not only demanding academic mitigating measures to support students, but also that SOAS management go to the government to demand a bailout for all universities so they can refund fees for this year – and demand free education.
