The University of Sheffield takes more money from arms companies than any other university in the UK – £72 million over the last decade.
The students received no response from management after trying occupations, petitions and engaging with official events to call for divestment – so now they’ve started an encampment, inspired both by the US encampments and Warwick University students, the first UK university to start an encampment.
It’s a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive space, run by a coalition of staff and students, and visited by many from a city with a long tradition of standing with the people of Palestine.
You’ll see a list of things the encampment needs in the video but the students say the most important thing is to come and visit – they want it to be a space for everybody in the city as the movement continues to grow to stop Israel’s genocide.
