March 11 2026 marks the one year anniversary of the Birmingham binworkers going on all out strike to stop an £8,000 pay cut – and they marked the occasion by bringing workers from all three yards together in a show of strength.
The determination to get the council back to the negotiating table and talk to them to resolve this dispute was on display everywhere, with binworker after binworker adamant that they won’t back down, they’re all united, and they’re getting stronger and stronger.
They also wanted to thank everyone for the solidarity that has flooded in during the dispute and continues to increase, from Birmingham residents (80% of whom support the strike), to the wider trade union movement, to the “persons unknown” who have been blockading yards when the binworkers have been prevented by an injunction from picketing their own workplaces.
So yet again, everyone’s waiting for the council to say something. John Cotton, you say your door is always open, but as soon as the binworkers come you slam it shut. Is it really so difficult to have a chat to resolve this dispute?
