Notorious blacklisting construction company Kier are not paying their motorway maintenance staff in Basingstoke sick pay. The workers only get statutory sick pay of £97 a week if they have to take time off – while Kier office workers, and staff at Highways England (who gave the contract to Kier) are on full sick pay from day 1, for three months.
So UNITE activists protested outside both Kier and Highways England offices, occupying one office until the police were called. Action will continue until Kier stop this discriminatory practice and pay everyone the same sick pay.
