This morning electricians, the Blacklist Support Group and their supporters closed the main entrance of the Crossrail project in Westbourne Park after 28 workers were sacked last Friday. They were escorted off the site by their employer E.I.S. following a row about safety concerns. Overall responsibility lies with US multinational Bechtel who are well known for their union busting antics in the states as well as their predatory capitalism in Iraq following the 2003 invasion.
There were scuffles with security guards as barricades were built on the access road to the site and construction delivery traffic was turned away. More protests have been planned for tomorrow unless negotiations with representatives from the UNITE trade union make serious progress today. Video report coming later today.
